What’s the Difference Between Club Volleyball and League Volleyball?

As High School Volleyball begins to wrap up in October and Club Volleyball begins to take swing, many parents wonder, what is next for my daughter? Is she ready for Club Volleyball? What is Club Volleyball? What’s the difference between CAL Sports Club Volleyball and their in-house league? These are common questions that the staff at CAL Sports Academy are frequently asked. I’m here to help clear the waters and guide you in the right direction to continue your daughter’s growth in the sport of Volleyball.

Club Volleyball at CAL Sports is very competitive. Tryouts are held the first two weekends of November where Coaches evaluate players and look to find 10 players to make a well-balanced team. Tryouts are intense and fast paced. Coaches will work the girls to see who mentally and physically would be a good fit on their team. Once teams are created, practices then start. The season runs from December through May with two practices a week. Club Volleyball is a commitment and Coaches take attendance each and every practice to ensure that their team is staying loyal and committed. The team participates in up to seven tournaments from December through May, with some being single day and some being two day tournaments. Teams will compete with other local teams that consist of some of the top players in our area. Tournaments range from being local, to traveling to Lancaster.

What are some things coaches look for at Club Volleyball Tryouts?

  • An understanding of the game and rules
  • Sense of Volleyball IQ
  • Control with the Volleyball
  • Intensity
  • Determination
  • Leaders
  • Physical Shape (Conditioning, Strength and Speed)
  • Understanding of quick plays, defense and offense
  • Athletes that are Coachable and willing to learn and try new things

Sound intense? Maybe a better fit for you would be our In-House Volleyball League here at CAL Sports. Our In-House League is an all girls’ volleyball league for ages 10-16. This league takes place on the weekends and is structured around development and putting skills they have learned into real live games. Coaches in this league are all CAL Sports staff with plenty of volleyball experience and knowledge.  While this league may not be for the pure beginner, this league includes practices and skill sessions to assist with the development of the player’s overall game. Our Volleyball League starts off with the first week being evaluations. Each player will be evaluated by the coaches on their overall game, passing, setting, hitting and serving. Once evaluations are complete, coaches then take the time to converse and create teams that are fair and even. Week 2 is a week where you get to practice with your team and then games follow for the remaining seven weeks. The end of the season consists of a playoff game and a championship game where awards and trophies are handed out to the first and second place team. We even honor an MVP for the league! Players that participate in our league all receive fair and equal playing time.

What will my daughter gain from the In-House Volleyball League?

  • Better understanding of the rules of the game
  • Increase in Volleyball IQ
  • Leadership skills
  • Overall skill development
  • Communication
  • How to work as a team
  • Experience Coaching that will work to take your daughters game to the next level

We hope to see you at tryouts!
